The person

Start with the person treating you, not the treatment name

As of September 2026, anyone treating you while you are in New York needs an up-to-date New York licence, even when the visit happens by phone or video. That covers nurses and physician assistants as well as doctors.

The product

Get the medicine’s exact name and what kind it is

A treatment name can sound precise and still not tell you whether it is an approved medicine, one mixed by a pharmacy, or neither.

503A pharmacy

One named patient

As of September 2026, this is a regular pharmacy that prepares each medicine for a single patient whose name is on the prescription. The name comes from section 503A, the part of federal drug law that covers it.

503B batch facility

Germ-free batches for clinics

As of September 2026, this is a bigger facility, not always a pharmacy, that produces germ-free (sterile) medicine in batches, often supplying clinics and hospitals, and signs up with the FDA. It can make a batch without any prescription naming you, so ask which facility made your batch.

As of September 2026, “FDA registered” describes a facility record; it does not make the medicine FDA-approved.

The pharmacy

Trace the medicine all the way back

The most useful first question is simple: which pharmacy makes and sends the medicine?

Ask Full pharmacy name
Match Label and receipt
Verify State record

As of September 2026, a pharmacy in another state that mails prescription medicine to you in New York must be licensed in its own state and also registered with New York.

The plan

Make follow-up part of the first conversation

The plan needs to make sense after the video call ends or you walk out of the office.

Questions to keep

  • What change are we watching for?
  • When do we check in again?
  • Who answers a problem between visits?
  • When would an in-person exam or test matter?

Write the answer

The price

Turn the advertised price into a full monthly total

Many online weight services bill the membership and medicine as separate items.

Visit or membership__________
Medicine__________
Tests__________
Supplies and delivery__________
Follow-up__________
Monthly total__________

Also ask:

“What changes after an intro price, a dose change, a late refill, or a cancelled membership?”

Avoid

Don’t tick past doubts

Pause when a basic answer stays hidden

One vague answer can be fixed. A pattern of hidden names and rushed choices is different.

No prescription

As of September 2026, a site offering a prescription medicine with no prescription is operating against federal law.

A false approval claim

As of September 2026, a compounded medicine cannot honestly be called FDA-approved.

A form with no exchange

A form that never asks you a single follow-up question cannot give a proper assessment.

A pharmacy that stays unnamed

Ask for the full name before sharing payment details. Then use the state record.

A research label

As of September 2026, nothing sold “for research use only” gives anyone a lawful way to treat a person with it.

No route back

Pause if nobody can explain who handles questions after the medicine arrives.

Caption: the clearest stop signs are when nobody will say who is prescribing, which pharmacy makes the medicine, or what kind of medicine it is.

Help

If something goes wrong

Send the problem to the right public office

As of September 2026, complaints about a New York doctor or physician assistant go to the state health department’s medical conduct office.

The Education Department handles complaints about other licensed health professions.
